If he is eating well but losing weight, this is most likely due to either hyperthyroidism or kidney failure. Has the vet checked his thyroid, and his urine for protein? If he has a lot of protein in his urine, feed him cheap hamburger, as he needs more protein to replace what he is losing, and fat for energy.
The nasal discharge is best treated with homeopathy, as it is probably a sinus infection which is hard to get at. If the discharge is stringy or ropy, kali bichromicum is indicated. If the cat is very mellow, try Pulsatilla. You might try Hydrastis if the other two have not helped.
