You're dealing with two traits that are not on the same allele. They are unrelated. Just as if you were crossing a tall person with a blonde headed person. A person is not either tall OR blonde. They can be any combination of the two, just as a gecko can be albino and patternless, or non-albino and patternless, etc. etc. They're not albino OR patternless. Two letters are used to represent each trait (assuming it isn't on the same allele).

I'm not an expert, but that's the general idea.
