I'm so glad that many of you still use this forum. Yes, I know, The Mob all ran to Facebook, but they will have their reward once the full degree of personal tracking & compromise of personal data are revealed as a consequence.

Plus, being CONSTANTLY CONNECTED to The Borg will get old one day. I'm certain.

I met my first Cuban Boa at a pet store in Newburg, OR. A male, he is 3 years old, and around 5 feet long. Fully grown, I'm hoping that he stays fairly small. (Yes, official literature details that these can grow past 12 feet, but how often are ideal conditions met, and how many persons have personally seen one over 8 feet long??)

He had not sold, I was told, because all other persons who held him got musked with a steady stream of urine. I was warned in advance, and offered gloves. I trusted my judgement & experience.

When I picked him up, it was like two kindred souls meeting. He looked at me with those large, black eyes. I looked at him, and a trust was formed. He rode around on my for awhile until I put him back into his cage, promising to say goodbye before I left. (I actually had come to look at the Spotted Python who was more uncivil.)

I got him on the spot, took him home and upgraded his former 30-gallon cage to a 75-gallon vivarium with 10 branches, numerous fake plants & rocks. Oh, and the covered soak pook, of course.

He's been there over a week. He's shy when first picked up, but he has only lunged at me a couple of times, and only bitten once. Lunges & musking are ending slowly as we cultivate more trust.

Although new & somewhat apprehensive in his new world, his first home since the pet store, I have much confidence that he will be curious, well behaved when handled & surprisingly cooperative when it comes time to be picked up or put away.

He definitely seems to look & behave more like the Rainbow Boa than like a Boa Constrictor. I'm looking forward to supervised outings in the back yard for basking sessions.
