Childrens pythons are very shy when young. They get more friendly and outgoing when adults. So expect yours to hide the vast majority of the time while still small.

They really enjoy a moist hide box on the warm end of the cage. Easy to do. A plastic show box with a hole cutout of the lid, filled with sphagnum moss and placed partially over the heat pad. Let the moss nearly dry out before you wet it again.

From my experience (I have raised a number of baby childreni up into adulthood..), here is what worked nicely at my pad:
1. Substrate of repti-chip or aspen
2. Moist hide box as described above
3. Low, dark hide box (like Reptile Basics, Inc types) or cork flat. They like to wedge under stuff.

For heating, depends on where you live and how cold it gets. I used undertank heating, but in Winter I added either a ceramic heat emitter or radiant heat panel (for adults).

I would also cover up at least 1/2 of that screen top. Use a thermostat - one for the overhead heater, one for the undertank heater. Let me know if you need help with controller selection.
