Yes, there is. Overall the head shape between the two is different. It is like looking at a Pitbull and a Great Dane.
You can simply use the book "Complete Ball Python" or an even better choice would be the book "Pythons of the World, Vol II: BALL PYTHONS" which will show diagrams on head scale pattern size and count between a few species.
