I am assuming that the poster was referring to a Columbian red-tail (Boa constrictor constrictor), and I don't think there is anything common about them. We got ours from a reputable dealer and she's a beautiful animal. I wouldn't critize anyone for wanting to get one. They make nice snakes for a first time boa owner as they tend to be less agressive than the locality bred species. Ours was our first big snake and now we are looking at a Surinam or Peruvian. Good luck if you talk your parents into one!
