There has already been a lot of useful suggestions posted to this message. I would like to reccomend a couple other links to look at.

Society for the Study of Reptiles and Amphibians (SSAR) has a page on advice for aspiring herpetologists.

http://www.ssarherps.org/pages/career.html

A few other good schools in the US with faculty that are good at encouraging herpetological research for undergrads are Cornell University (Ithaca, NY), UC Davis (Davis, CA), and UC Berkeley (Berkeley CA).

These websites may be useful:

Good luck,

Mike
