My ACF often left the guppies or minnows; not for lack of trying, but just because they were quicker and harder to catch. If you have appropriate filtration you can leave the fish in the enclosure and slowly they will be picked off. In the mean time they will feed off of debris and food scraps. If over crowded the water may foul, so again, make sure filtration/water changes are up to par.
