I have been studying North American herps for about 12 years, so I am highly interested in genus specific coverage. This book presents great detail on the things I am looking for...Habitat, diet, behaviour, and reproduction. The captive husbandry notes are quite short, but this is expected for natural history literature.
The range maps are excellent, detailing down to county for each species presented. The color plates are also excellent, including an amazing photo of Nerodia clarkii compressicauda luring fish with it's tongue! If you are interested in our native Water snakes and want a more in depth look at them than the average field guide presents, then I recommend this book.
