I have a light on my dwarf frog and she's fine with it. Otherwise, she'd be in a very dark room. I used to have live plants in there, but got rid of them. Never got rid of the light. I also have an over-the-side filter (whisper type) which is great. It's on low flow, so doesn't disturb her at all, but keeps the tank much nicer.

If there's crud on the aquarium, salt will get it off nicely. Vinegar followed by peroxide will give it an excellent cleaning, but you'll have to rinse it outrageously well to be sure there's no residue. I would replace the gravel entirely if I were you. If there's any cooties, it's too hard to kill.

Hope this is still useful to you!
