When I was thinking of starting a pet store, I came up with the same idea, to have examples of full grown reptiles so that the potential buyer would know what exactly they were getting in to. Another option is if someone does decide they want a pet Burmese (for example), is to invite them over when the snake is being fed so they know what they're dealing with. I've run into a fair amount of people who love the idea of the snake, just as long as they don't have to feed it anything furry.
On the other hand, you have to market the "shock tactics" the right way. It would be best to do it in such a way that so that the public learns to respect the animal, not fear it (and subsequently pass laws against them), which could happen if gory bite pictures and potentially bloody feedings are being used to seperate the responsible buyers from the irresponsible.
