I posted this on the general gecko forum but I think I might get a better response here. I rescued a juvenile standings day gecko a few weeks ago and want to make sure my setup and care are okay. I have him in an 18 gal tall aquarium with a screen lid. The substrate is a layer of pea gravel, covered by a layer of potting soil, covered by a layer of reptile bark. I have a small bromeliad and small Sansevieria planted in the substrate. He also has a half-log hide and several vertical and horizonal bamboo branches to climb on. I am also using a UVB lamp and night lamp on top of his cage. I am monitoring temp and humidity with gages in the cage (humidity is usually 50% but rises to around 70% for short periods after misting, which I do about every other day). The temp at the bottom of the cage is 80 degrees. I will measure the temp close to the heat lamp as soon as I get another thermometer. I feed him about 6 small crickets every 2-3 days and give him baby food mixed with calcium powder 2-3 times a week. Do I need to feed him more often? Will he outgrow this size tank when he is full grown? Sorry this is so long but I want to make sure I am taking care of him properly. Thanks in advance for your help!
