I know what you mean about shows. I could go to one but all the shows in Texas are either in Austin, Houston, or the DFW area, all 3 are long major trips for me that I can't do in one day so I haven't been to one since 1998!
When I did go I didn't see any mud turtles at all, sulcata babies & sliders were about it for shelled critters, but they had a lot of snakes.
Scooter is actually native to my area. He was given to me as a hatchling by someone who'd found him several miles from where my house sits. That person moved away & I lost contact with him. I didn't know exactly where Scooter came from, I didn't know where to release him, I couldn't just let him go in my yard, there's no water source in my neighborhood. I didn't know what to do with him, I didn't want him to die because hatchlings are SO darn cute so I ended up keeping him. Now he's just part of the family so even though I don't like taking in wild caught, he was an exception to my rule.
If I was looking to buy one though I just would have no idea where to look.
