The turtle you have is a Chinese thread turtle, aka the Chinese stripe-necked turtle, Ocadia sinensis. It belongs to a group of turtles that are somewhat similar to common North American aquatic turtles.
A decent care page for this species can be found at chelonia.org, under the species care links. These turtles grow into very personable creatures if properly maintained.
