I have bred fatties for a number of years and have never fed pinkies. As long as you are feeding crickets daily when they are young, they will grow
I would not even think about breeding until the females weight is at least 55 grams (IMO). It is better for the females if you wait, that way their body has time to develop. The healthier the female, the healthier the offspring
