Actually, I have never given the subject much thought until the last couple of days, and resultantly I visited the Venomoid Sub-Forum for the first and last time. Frankly, I do not have the same passion about the subject as many obviously have. Even if the procedure was foolproof, harmless and humane however, I would have nothing to do with it.I simply do not get the point: what purpose does it serve?
Keeping any animal involves assuming some potential risks and liabilities. This is obviously true with respect to reptiles that pose a lethal threat, as in the case of giant constrictors and hots. Recognizing and managing those risks is a fundamental responsibility of the keeper. For me, surgically altering the animal is not a risk management option. Until I am ready to accept and address the risks as they exist, I have no business keeping these sorts of animals. When however, I determine I am able and willing to do so, I figure its my right and I really don't care what others think about my activites of this sort.
