two meals in 5 months would not be normal to me. if you mean 85 is the temp of the hot side of the cage, i would say that could be your problem. i keep my cages at 90-91 on the hot side. if i am understanding you correctly, then i would bump up your temps and you should get much better feeding results.

My male has been a slow eater only taking 1 hamster and 1 mouse in both january and feb. The ambient temp in there tanks is near 85 degrees in the day since its still kinda winter here. Is this a normal eating pattern or is he maybe too cold? Also he seems close to shed and has not eaten for 22 days.
