I have a little baby russian tortoise who has a carapace length of about 3" (maybe just under....is that a lot of growth considering he was a little under 2" when we got him in november?). I have him in a rubbermaid bin right now until his next enclosure is built, and I have it setup with about 4" dirt, warm and cold hides, hay, etc etc with a screened section on top for the lights (his heat lamp is a regular light bulb on a dimmer).
Today it must have been a little drafty in my room, because I came in to find him basking, but in an unusual way. He must have thought it wasn't warm enough, because he decided to move him warm hidespot into the middle of the tank underneath the light, and he was just sitting on top of it basking. He's a strong little guy.
