Tortoises DO the worst things (unintentionally) and I try to plan for any situation. I've never had a tortoise die in a water trough, but know people who have and I never want it to happen. So, I hope this helps maybe in some way. In all, that's a nice place for your tort to live!

Thanks for your concern Matt.
There are a couple of bricks in the water dish.
Rah travels in and out of the dish at will.
The only problem being, that is his favortie place to defecate.
By the way...Although, I just extended the pen to 16ft x 16ft he has been living in that pen at 16ft x 8ft since 2001.
At least during the summer months.
As stated before, he has an indoor home for the cooler months.

and for the other poster that asked if he was in any of the pics...
he is in the second picture.
If you look at the water dish and then to the left of that approximately 2 1/2 to 3ft you will see Rah next to his feeding stone. (an octagonal paving stone)


Oh, and just in case..........He had extreme pyrimiding when I rescued/adopted him so, although I appreciate the concern, I do not need a lecture on how to feed him.
