Years ago, back in my University days, doing research for a herpetology paper, I came accross a foot note in one of the herpetological serveys indicating that the Bothrochilus boa was no longer found in the Bismark Archipela. And when it was originaly found it was limited to a narrow range of a few islands. It gave no indication as to why. I remember asking myself why back then and have not found any support since.
The barkers have a small indicator on their site, indicating that this animal is no longer available from the wild, again with no reason. We get other snakes from New Guinea so it should not be an export restriction?
