Hello everyone, I rarely post here but I thought I would offer my opinion. I think one of the reasons we keepers are met with such antagonism is the ignorance of the public. When we keep our hobby hidden we are in effect contributing to the problem. It is just my opinon but I feel responsible keepers should take the time out to educate neighbors, coworkers, youth, and state representatives about our hobby. Once the public becomes even the slightest bit educated to our hobby they will realize there is really no need concern or restrictive legislation. Most of the common public views us herptoculturist as a handful of extremist but in reality we encompass virtually every demographic of people with our numbers large and growing constantly. If the public realizes we are commonplace and if we could educate them even slightly about our hobby, they will realize they have little to fear and consequently there may be less knee jerk reactions and preposterous legislation. Just my thoughts.
