I'm going to start a set of these in a couple days. The plans I saw before called for something like this-
Either build up Great Stuff (that expanding caulking foam) into the shape you want, or carve styrofoam into that shape. Then, get some acetone (nailpolish remover), and paint it onto the styrofoam/great stuff. It will melt/eat away the stuff, and make it look a bit more naturally shaped.
Then, paint or pour on the glue that you'd use to glue linoleum or tile down to your floor. Make it even more rock-like. I've heard it's OK to leave it right like that, but I've also heard that it's a good idea to spray paint the "rock" to make a ittle variability, and even more natural looking, then seal it with polyurethane, or epoxy.
