Rob:

I have a few box set-ups I use indoors, but 95% of the shots are taken in our yard. We have all manner of groundscapes in and around our yard. We live in the Hill Country of Texas and it's very rocky. The climax species around here is Oak/Juniper so we have lots of different trees and leaves laying around.

I like cloudy days for outdoor shots and I almost always use fill in flash since I don't like to use tripods. If I used tripods to forgive my jiggling and could get these danged wriggling serpents to hold still, I'd do all natural lighting. Also, no such luck in the "jiggle and wriggle" departments.

98% of the pictures on my site were taken with a point and shoot camera. Not with my Nikon D100 digital SLR. Only about 5% of the pix in my first book were taken with the D100. In other words, the pix I take are possible for all of you that have everyday point and shoot digital cameras.
