The female needs to be at least 14" snout to vent; about 16-17" total. Some studies suggest that females start yolk deposition (vitellogenesis) the summer before eggs are produced. So if your female hits 14" snout-vent length (SVL) this summer, she may be ready next spring, after you cool her.
