THE HERALD (Plymouth, UK) 22 April 08 Iguana Rescued From Roof By Firefighters
An iguana had to be rescued from a Plymouth rooftop after a call from the RSPCA.
One fire appliance from Camels Head was sent when the RSPCA called in help saying an iguana was stuck on a chimney.
Upon arrival, fire crews requested the attendance of a second fire appliance from Camels Head for the use of a longer ladder. The RSPCA, who did not attend, advised firefighters that the reptile would be docile because of the cold weather, but that gloves and face protection would be required.
Iguanas are known to use their tails as whips when frightened.
The reptile was returned to its owner, unharmed, despite the ordeal.
A fire service spokesman said: "Fortunately, fire crews also returned from the incident unscathed."
The rescue took place at 9.25am today in Alexandra Road, Ford.
