I spoke with Troy Frantz the other night concerning this as he is a broker and ships snakes all over. He made some interesting and valid points. He said that it should be pointed out that one snake sale is equal to perhaps 3 or more other businesses being involved. The person who buys the snake then turns around and buys a cage, heating, thermostat, food, and shipping etc. Essentially banning snakes would affect a billion dollar business and that in turn affects the economy. Something people are very picky about right now. He also expressed skepticism that the USFWS could effectively ban transport between states. My letter pointed out the effects upon the economy and how banning all pythons and boas would not be economically prudent. They most certainly need to be species specific instead of just blanket banning everything called python or boa. | ||
