Are his feces properly formed and colored, or does he have grayish, sickly-sweet smelling feces? I'll assume he hasn't been regurging else you would have mentioned it, but how is his appetite? Diminished at all?

I've seen crusties on hondos before, and it can be bad news. I'd suggest a visit to the vet and a full fecal exam to see what is going on in the gut.
