I'm wondering where you live... The easterns here in MN are a steely-blue gray, with the markings almost impossible to see as they're only just a wee bit darker than the ground color. Their heads are much more > shaped, with elongated dark, blackish patches on either side of the head.

Our westerns look like your snake. Could it be your snake is a western?
