I grew up in central IL. You know? Everything south o'Cook County? :D Actually, St. Clair County. But that was back in the dark ages, duing the times of horses and buggies, and I had NO interest in snakes at the time (shudder).

Son-of-a-gun. I'm really a noob to this snake thing and never knew there could be such a difference in Easterns. Live and learn. Whatever, ittiz a very nice snake. Up here, couldn't keep it - and wouldn't want to. They're a species of Special Concern here. Westerns, too. We *do* have a captive Garter at the park, but they're a dime a dozen and it's being used for educational purposes so they were lenient with my "Can we keep it? PLEASE????"

I've no interest in breeding. Just want my Kenabec to cuddle and love.

Good luck with your program!
