Hey Chris,
Congratulations! I just got two eggs from a pair of my Sandhills Scarlets. Maybe it's a locale difference, but the North Carolina Scarlets that I'm working with seem to start on pinky parts pretty easily, yet they don't seem to get as large as the Florida Scarlets. The Scarlet eggs, and hatchlings are huge in proportion to the size of the mother. One of last years holdbacks is almost as big this year, as her mother was last year. They are a very interesting species to work with! They are definitely worth the little extra trouble. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. Here's an old pic of an '07 hatchling.
