Just thought I'd throw this out. I took in a burmese pthon once that had crawled through roofing tar. I cleaned up what I could, but couldn't get it all off. He shed 4-5 times in the next month and a half, until all the soaked in tar was gone from his skin. So, maybe some sort if chemical exposure is a pssibility...
