It would be nice to have some kind of quantitative study of the color patterns in different parts of the range of this and other broad-ranging snakes, but it's just not the sort of thing that funding is available for. I think the existing range maps are largely based on impressions and guesswork, since the distinctions between the subspecies are not clear-cut and are often invisible in preserved specimens. Oh well! | ||
