a modification of the method Doug described above that I have heard of people doing is to put the rodent in a sack like a pillow case or something, hold onto the top, and slam the other end with the rodent in it against a hard surface like a counter top. Basically the same thing as launching them onto concrete but I guess there would be less risk of splatter.
