Hi, I have 1.1 Heterodon nasicus that were born in April 2008.

I currently keep them individually in plastic shoe boxes 30cm's x 15cm's x 6cm's. I am using dry bark mulch (wood chips).

I'd like to make it more realistic. They do live in the wild here and their habitat is grasslands with sandy soil. I was hoping to get some wild grasses for their enclosures.

I was wondering if sand is a safe substrate to be using for them? I would be using playground sand, washed first to get rid of most of the dust then dried in the sun.

Thanks for any help.
