I prefer drilling holes with a stepped drill bit, starting at about 1/8" and working up to about 3/16". The bit I use is titanium coated and hasn't cracked a single Sterilite tub even cold tubs.

I drill all my holes the same size and over ventilate and cover up un-needed holes, easier to cover up than drill more.
