The reason you can't find the snake in Guatemalan resources is that it is one of the western subspecies of Gophersnake (Pituophis catenifer). The bananas may have come from Guatemala, but the snake came from the west coast.



There is a species of Pituophis (P. lineaticollis) that occurs in Guatemala, but only in the highlands (not where bananas grow) and it doesn't look anything like this animal.
