To be honest, I don't know.
I do know that the amel prairies I produced in the past that were nice and red had no mole king at all in them. The blotches were reddish/orange and slowly faded a bit, but the color never really encroached into the ground color (if that makes sense).
These others you're talking about, well...there obviously could be influence from other ssp./strains in there. I just don't know.

Have you asked the "source"?
I was actually looking for another prairie male for my female since my old fella died last year...but haven't replaced him and I wouldn't cross the ssp. even though I have lots of male rhombomaculatta to use.
I think the prairies are cool enough with the morphs that occur.
