Will a Pet Cat Drive my Snakes Crazy???

I keep and breed Burms. My room-mate wants to get a pet cat. I told him that I didn't think it was a good idea. However I don't really know. Will my snakes become accustomed to the cat being their and them being able to smell it? I really don't want them to ever see the cat at all. I can't really say no tho, seeing as how he pays rent also and I have like 5 pets. Any thoughts or experience with the cats around snakes?
