What made the algae blooom? I have noticed one of the biggest problems is phosphates and if you don't use RO water you can be adding them into your tank without even knowing. I have found tap water to be the biggest problem with a tank. My favorite substrate is live sand, it helps hold a lot of bacteria that will end up aiding the tank.
