I am looking to buy another hognose. Right now I have one western (had him for 2 years), but I am interested in buying an eastern or a southern (and maybe eventually own all the heterodon species). I have read and heard mix things about the life span of these animals in captivity. I heard easterns are shorter lived and live about 3-5 years either due to diseases or parisites from being fed amphibians to fatty liver issue due to rodents. I have not heard much about southerns. Which would make the best captive? And is a diet of rodents the best bet for healthy life in captivity (and less work on the owner).
