As grasshopper indicated, much of the secret involves the mysterious "bowls". "Bowls" can be any object large enough to contain the subject and best when as small as possible to barely contain the subject. I have cheap dollar store bowls with arches cut into the rims. Two inverted bowls are placed on the location where you will take the pictures with the slots aligned. Direct the subjects head into the opening and allow it to slither in. Rotate the bowls in opposite directions to close off the opening as it slithers in. Once all the way in and closed off. wiegh it down and wait a few minutes. When you lift of the bowls you just might get a decent amount of time to photograph but be ready, time may still be very short.

For small enough babies, I use my hands.

For my "soup" shots, it must be a combination of my touch and the tubs I use allowing me to gently lift them out without actually disturbing them. Once moving, they WON'T settle down so if wiggly when removed, put right back away.
