Mine's not nearly that bad. A little tail rattling and some half hearted strikes. He's also getting better each time he's handled. I have read that some adults aren't always great snakes to handle. I've gotten spoiled w/ my northerns. They are literally a lap snake, never in a big hurry. This lined pit reminds me more of some black pines I used to have. Not mean but not always cooperative either.
I would do what your doing. I've had some real biters (beauty snakes etc) that I thought were never gonna change. A little persistance(and lost blood) usually pays off in the long run.
