>>Is there a time limit that you have before deciding that a pair >>just aren't good together?
I usually pair them up for about 4 days to a week. If nothing is going on they get split then re-introduced around 4 weeks later.
I've got two pairings I'm trying for that so far the males show no interest, they are both un-proven males and one is an '08 so still young. Tried once with the females (one female is proven, the other is virgin) and so far, nothing. I'm going to re-introduce in another week. I'll give them 3 shots and if nothing is going on, call it quits on that pairing.

Could very well be! One of my pairs went together 10/12 and were courting off and on all the way til the end of Jan, she just had her POS 2/5 and I split them up 2/6. That's almost 4 months of courting/breeding (they both immedietly shed after introduction as well).
>>How does the age of the male affect their viability? >>If they are too young but copulate what happens, does the female have slugs or just never ovulate?
I can't speak from experience but what I've read and seen happen with other species, the female slugs out.
Good luck with your pairings, that last pair you posted has me on the edge of my seat! -April ----- 'There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."' -Rainshadow
