Many people don't realize that when a snake drinks, it fills it's throat up with the water, and that it needs gravity to get it down into the stomach.



That is also why whenever I administer any medication mixed with a tad of water to a snake, I always hold the snake straight up and down for a little bit so it all goes down into the stomach.
