I sold my rats when the babies were about 10 days old. The mama got real mean about protecting them, understandable, but I did not feel like keeping a critter that would not hesitate to bite me. I guess I am spoiled by my gentle little mice; I can reach into the nest and take young without ever getting bit by the parents. With this mama rat I had to fend her off with a cardboard shield!
