If your going to cages and away from racks a 3x1x1 cage id OK, but a 4x2x2 is ideal for even the largest rats. When I had my boas the bottom cages were always reserved for my big adult racks. The 6ft leucy rat adults sure did love it.... I actually felt bad putting them back into a cb70 rack when the boas went.

I guess it depends on what rats you plan on holding onto and how much room you have to fit them into. But I like the 4x2x2 myself.
