Yeah, many snakes behave like that when going into, or out of brumation. It could very well be natures way of gradually getting their internal organs accustomed to eating once again after being dormant for so long, and are much more inclined to accept smaller, far easier digested prey items. This has always seemed very logical to me anyway.
