After collecting a young male and female I sent in a application for a propagation permit (because this form of rat snake is protected in Utah), which was approved. It took two years for the pair that I collected to become sexually mature and in 2008 I was able to get a clutch of 5 perfect eggs, they all hatched. In 2009 I received another clutch of 4 perfect eggs and they all hatched. In 2010 another clutch of 4 eggs were laid and all eggs again hatched. I have kept back almost all of those hatchlings from the three seperate clutches. In my opinion, they are by far, the most attractive of the Great Plains Rat snakes. I've attatched a picture of one of the 2008 snakes and one of the 2010 hatchlings. They hatch out looking like a nice but fairly normal emoryi but as they mature they definitely stand out. What do you guys think? | ||
