I already have seen in Palos Verdes that Cal kings can live practically on top of one another. There are pockets of Cal kings that are very dense, and other places that seem completely devoid of them. They must occur there too but probably not in the density.

There has been a large native vegetation restoration project in areas of Palos Verdes. Lizard populations swell where the changes are made, and the sudden appearence of sideblotch lizards where I never saw them before is interesting. I have no idea what this has done to the snakes, but it seems from what others have told me that Cal kings are just not found (yet) in these areas compared to the grasslands with non-native vegetation. I have not seen any rattlesnakes but my vet told me that there was a bloom this last season which corresponds to the native plant projects, since many dogs were coming in with bites. Don't know if it means they were displaced or that they do well in the new habitat.

Of course, there is no AC in the new areas. Any boards are quickly picked up by volunteers and workers, so it is impossible to really know what is going on there with regards to kings.
