The probe is going to give you a more accurate idea of the animal's gender than cloacal pores. If someone told you that it was a male, I'd ask how they made that determination. Snakes are misidentified and mis-sexed all the time. If you posted a pic of the underside of the snake's tail, you might get some educated guesses from this forum.
